Bioblitz at parc-nature Harwood

From April 25th to April 28th, 2025, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) will participate in a global bioblitz called the Défi nature urbaine, organized by the Réseau Biodiversité au campus, Technoparc Oiseaux and the Fédération canadienne de la faune. During these four days, residents from over 400 cities around the world will attempt to document as many species of wildlife and flora as possible using the free iNaturalist application.

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is joining the movement by organizing a bioblitz at parc-nature Harwood. During this free and registration-free activity, citizens will contribute to establishing the biodiversity profile in Vaudreuil-Dorion, while advancing urban conservation efforts.

What is a bioblitz?

A bioblitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Bioblitzes are great ways to engage the public to connect to their environment while generating useful data for science and conservation.

To reduce environmental impact, prioritize sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, biking, public transit, or carpooling.

Creating a ditch

Did you know that a well-maintained ditch can improve water quality and promote biodiversity? Indeed, the vegetation that grows on its banks helps filter runoff water before it reaches waterways, thus reducing contaminants. It also serves as a habitat for many species and contributes to ecological connectivity.

To raise awareness of best practices, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion invites you to take part in the creation of a model ditch by planting various shrubs, flowering plants and adapted seeds.

  • Saturday, May 31, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Parc des Sapins (rue des Sapins)
  • No registration required

Chasses aux trésors

Since 2020, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion has been organizing the Chasse aux trésors to give a second life to objects. Citizens are invited to drop off furniture or other objects at the curb that they wish to give to the next person. On a first-come, first-served basis, interested parties will be able to take possession of these treasures, free of charge.

The Chasse aux trésors  take place in May and September. Citizens wishing to dispose of items can drop them off at the curb at 8 a.m. This year, no registration with the City is required. Participants will simply have to place a sign indicating "To Donate" next to their items.

It is important to note that all items not collected must be picked up by 9 p.m. on Sunday. In case of rain, the decision to take the items outside or not is up to the participants. Thank you for your understanding.

Household hazardous waste and unprotected sharps will not be allowed to be displayed at the curb during the event, which will take place rain or shine.

Dates in 2025:

  • May 24 and 25
  • September 27 and 28

Environmental awareness officers

Réparothon

The Réparothon is held every year in October. This free activity offers citizens the opportunity to discuss and repair various objects. In 2025, the Réparothon will be held on October 25, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Centre multisports André-Chagnon.

Conference: Avoiding obsolescence
as part of Écodécouvertes

By Mélissa de La Fontaine, COOP INCITA

Tuesday, October 22, 7 p.m.
Public Library

Who hasn't faced a case of obsolescence? A device that seems to give up the ghost the day after the warranty expires. A perfectly good cell phone that just doesn't seem to answer anymore. And that new, trendy sweater we've been buying for ourselves in spite of a full wardrobe! In this conference, you'll have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the many facets of obsolescence, and discover the ways in which we can be part of the solution!
