Citizen presentation | Flooding and sewer backup: how to better protect your home
The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion invites its citizens to attend a special presentation on the flooding and sewer backups that occurred on August 9, following the rains associated with Hurricane Debby. The meeting, hosted by Marcel Roy, P.Eng. of JGSA inc. experts in hydrology and hydraulics, hydrogeomorphology and the environment, will take place on November 21, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the auditorium of École secondaire des Échos (1005, rue de Clichy, Vaudreuil-Dorion).
The aim of this citizens’ meeting is to inform the public about the causes of the events of August 9, explain the mechanisms of back-up and surface flooding, and provide technical information on protective measures for residences. A number of key topics will be covered, including:
- Defining the types of systems in Vaudreuil-Dorion;
- Plumbing code sections for protecting homes against backflow;
- The distinction between main and secondary lines;
- Different types of valves and their effectiveness;
- The BNQ standard for pressure-resistant valves;
- Pumping equipment;
- Anomalies noted during previous inspections.
The presentation will be followed by a question period.
Registration required
Interested citizens are invited to confirm their attendance at infotravaux@ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca before November 18. As space is limited, only one representative per residence is required to attend. The meeting will be filmed, and the link will be available on the City’s website for those unable to attend.
