Information session on provisional flood zone mapping
On November 5, an information session organized by the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion was held in the auditorium of École secondaire des Échos. At this meeting, representatives of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) presented an outline of the proposed regulations and their potential impact on affected homes. Preliminary flood zone maps, produced by the CMM in accordance with the Quebec government's methodological guide, were published on September 30. This initiative is part of the public consultation on the project to modernize the regulatory framework for water environments, including flood zones, announced in June 2024 by the Minister of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks. According to these new maps, the number of buildings affected is 7.5 times higher than the previous mapping, representing approximately 9.7% of all buildings in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

All owners affected by this provisional mapping were invited to the information session. For those who were unable to attend, a replay of the session is available.

In addition, Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols, who attended the meeting, encouraged citizens to sign the online petition on the National Assembly website. The petition calls on the Quebec government to postpone adoption of the regulations and to continue consultations until all preliminary maps have been unveiled to citizens. It also calls for a simple, accessible process to be put in place for the revision of flood and mobility zone mapping.
